Obituary of Sitting Eagle

John passed away peacefully at his beloved home on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 with his faithful and loving wife Pauline and his children and grandchildren by his side. John was born and raised on the Siksika Nation. In his younger years, he attended the Crowfoot Residential School and won a gold medal in boxing later in his prime. John worked with the Siksika Recreation Department for many years. His great loves, besides his family, were hockey, horses, rodeo, pool, and hand games. John retired and went on to own his own school bussing service. He was a devoted Roman Catholic and attended church faithfully with his family. John is survived by his wife Pauline; daughters, Sandra (Radford) and Vivian (Richard); sons, Stewart (Koren), Anthony, Adrian, Edwin, and Curtis (Janine); brothers, Simon (Josephine) and Gerald (Laura); aunties, Maggie Black Kettle, Roberta Jerry and Doreen Jerry; adopted auntie Rosealma Many Shots; special granddaughter Crystal; godson Andrew Drunken Chief; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchild Damon R.R.; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives, Calf Robes, Whitecalfs, Redcalfs, Swindlers, Standing Rocks, Windy Boys, Weasel Moccasins, and Slim Johns. John was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Mary Sitting Eagle; grandfather Jim Jerry; son Elton; sisters, Clara and Shirley; brothers, Roy and George (Pius); aunties, Delores Crow Chief, Rita Jerry, Lucy Weasel Head, Edna Leather, and Nina Red Old Man; uncles, George Jerry, Ben Sitting Eagle and Jonas Jerry; and a great-grandchild Faith Backfat. Wake Services will be held at the Sitting Eagle Residence (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Ian GagnÚ, Presider.
