Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Gore

Elizabeth “Liz” Gore (nee Kostiuk) passed away on Monday, May 31, 2004 at 5:45 A.M. at the Foothills Medical Centre with her family at her side, after a long and courageous battle with C.O.P.C. (emphysema). Liz was born at home in Yellow Creek, SK, where she lived throughout her childhood. She took Royal Conservatory piano lessons from the Nuns and graduated to grade nine. As well as piano, she loved playing softball and basketball. She moved to Regina upon graduating Grade twelve to obtain her Teaching Degree. Her career as a teacher was brief, but very rewarding, as she married at twenty-one and started a family shortly thereafter and wanted to have a career as a “mother.” Liz moved to Calgary thirty-seven years ago and has always loved Calgary from the start. Liz was a wonderful, beautiful woman with an unbelievable love of life. She enjoyed meeting new people, traveling, dancing, cooking, gardening, reading, watching TV, talking to family and friends on the phone, and she had a great love for animals (especially dogs). Her favorite quotes were “Enjoy every minute of everyday to the fullest” and “Dance while you can” (and she did). Liz was survived by her mother, Ann Kostiuk; her sister Iris Popiel; brother-in-law, Joe Popiel; her son, Greg Boa and his girlfriend, Colleen; her daughters, Jody Severinsen and Shelly Kolibar and sons-in-law Frank and Dan; her grandchildren, Travis Boa, Ashley and Graydon Severinsen, and Bretton and Breanne Kolibar; and her beloved dog, Robbie, as well as Tanner and Toby. She is also survived by her two nephews and nieces and newest addition Baby Ella. Liz was predeceased by her kind, loving father, Gregory Kostiuk who passed way in 1988. A Celebration of Liz’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, AB T6E 6K2 Telephone: 1 (888) 566 – 5864. Her children warmly extend a very special thanks to the Palliative Home Care Group and especially Unit 32 at the Foothills Medical Centre during her last two weeks of life, and especially Judy, Mylene, Carol and Irene (Palliative RN) and Dr. Edwards for his continuous concerns, patience, phone calls, hospital visits and home visits that allowed Liz to be cared for at her home for the last months, as she wished. We will miss her positive spirit, amazing strength, her love, her great outlook on life and the friendship she so freely offered to all who knew her. Our mom’s laughter, love and spirit will be felt in us forever. We love you, Mom.
