Obituary of Imre Elekes

Imre (Jim) Elekes, Sr. of Calgary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 1, 2004 at the age of 82 years. Jim was born on March 22, 1922 in the Transylvanian region of Romania. He married Elsa Elekes (nee Holler) in Germany and had two sons. The family lived in Calgary and had a daughter Diana in 1962. Jim was well known and respected in the community. He successfully owned and operated two service stations beginning with Lincoln Park Royalite in 1962 and GlenAlta Gulf /Petro-Canada from 1973-1993. Jim had a tremendous gift for relating to people with kindness and he developed a loyal clientele. He counted among his many friends, the customers and neighbors from the community. Jim is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim Elekes Jr. and Harry and Christa Elekes; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and John Charuk; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by numerous relatives in Germany, Hungary and Romania, as well as members of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Calgary and by the local Hungarian seniors community. Jim was predeceased by his wife Elsa in 1993. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (4718 Worcester Drive S.W.) on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Jack Hunthausen, Presider.
