Obituary of Jean Gwladys Whitley

Jean Gwladys Whitley of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the age of 77 years. Jean’s kind heart, generous spirit and loving devotion will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of fifty-eight years, John (Jack), and their two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Fern Albert and Maxine (nee Williams) and Kurt Gilmore, all of Calgary; three grandchildren, Wayne Albert (Sharon) of Hanwell, NB, Cynthia Bennett (Tim) and Kevin Williams (Carrie), all of Calgary; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew of Hanwell, NB, and Sydney Jean of Calgary. Jean is also survived by her sister Wilma of Trail, BC. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Margaret and Kathleen; and brother, Melville. Jean loved and enjoyed life. Those who knew her are aware of the deep love and caring she had for her family and many friends. She was a people-person, and always found time for listening or caring for others. Jean touched many lives with her thoughtfulness, her warmth, and her laughter. She will also be remembered by the patients and staff of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre where she volunteered for twelve years, trying to help people survive cancer as she herself had successfully done over the years. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. Special thanks and sincere appreciation to the many that gave so much time and such great loving care through her illness: Dr. David Hogan, Dr. Desiree Hao, Roz Stockden (caregiver), the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and the devoted care given by the wonderful staff during her short stay at Hillcrest Extendicare. Another thank you to Dr. Peter Jamieson and the exceptional staff of Unit 32 at the Foothills Medical Centre for their care and compassion.
