Obituary of Mary Louise Beard

Mary Louise Beard, a graceful, gentle person, who had a profound impact on many people she met during her remarkable journey, has left us. Mary was born in Calgary on April 30, 1917. She spent her working years serving as a teacher in Northern Alberta and Brooks and twenty-six years as a Missionary in Bolivia. After retiring she returned to Calgary and connected with L’Arche. The past ten years she graced Anita, Kenji and Babi with her presence, gentleness and love. Mary is survived by her sister Edith Beard; a nephew Bill Beard (Wendy); a niece Bonnie Ellis (Mike); and a second family, Kenji Akimoto and Anita Rehhorn. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Mary’s Life will be held at Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Avenue S.W.) on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. with The Very Rev. Dr. Bill Phipps officiating.
