Joan Thalheimer

Obituary of Joan Thalheimer

Joan (Peaches) Thalheimer of Calgary passed away peacefully in her sleep on Mother’s Day at the age of 81 years. In keeping with tradition and always being early for things, Joan got to celebrate Mother’s Day with her daughter Debbie on Friday. Joan, along with her twin brother Frank, was born in Big Stick, SK on November 13, 1922 and was one of seven siblings. At a young age, her parents were killed and she was adopted by the Arnold family. Joan served with the RCAF in World War II and packed parachutes. She had many fond memories of her days with “the girls” and had many stories to tell. Upon leaving the Air Force at the end of the War, she met her husband of fifty years Peter Thalheimer. They were married on July 1, 1952. Her career was focused in the retail industry. She worked at the Hudson’s Bay Company, Jenkins, IGA, Super Value and Wong’s Grocery. She was a generous person who made friends wherever she went. Joan loved to do her crafts and enjoyed her dinner outings with the Tri-Club Ladies – at the Royal Canadian Legion North No. 264. Joan and Peter loved to travel and visited such places as Japan, Singapore, Thailand, England, Scotland, Germany, and Austria. Their favourite place was Hawaii and three of their family vacations were held there. Joan never fully recovered from the loss of her son Brian (aged thirty-five) in 1993 and her husband Peter in 2002. Joan always looked forward to her niece Joyce’s letters and cards that kept her updated on the Peatch family and her twin brother’s shenanigans. She also enjoyed the constant care and attention given by Debbie’s close friend, Jackie. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Debbie; son-in-law Gary; her twin brother Frank; brothers-in-law, Charlie, Shorty, Joe, Lawrence, and Art; sisters-in-law, Jean, Gwen and Nonie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Mary and Joy, and her cat Joey. Joan was also predeceased by her brother Bill and sisters, Rose, Victoria, Julie, and Chris. In keeping with my mum’s wishes, Internment and Memorials of Joan, Peter and Brian’s Urns will be announced at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends and family, so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A special thanks to the staff at Cedars Villa Nursing Home, Clover Unit for all of their constant care and attention my mum received over the past seven months. In living memory of Joan Thalheimer, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W., CALGARY, TELEPHONE: (403) 243-8200.
