Obituary of Laura Irwin

Helen Irwin (nee Crowther) of Airdrie, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 after natural causes at the age of 79 years. Helen was born on January 25, 1925 at the family farm approximately ten miles from Val Jean, Saskatchewan (about forty-five miles from Moose Jaw). She moved to Regina and took a job with Sears. She met and married Theodore (Ted) Irwin. They had five daughters Donna, Bev, Linda, Bonnie and Susan. As a young family, they relocated to Calgary and started, owned and managed restaurants in Calgary and High River. Mom was challenged working and raising five daughters, but regardless of the circumstances, she always put her daughters first. Shortly after Ted’s passing she retired to Carstairs and then Airdrie. The pride of Helen’s life was her focus on doing things with and for her family. She is survived by her five daughters and four sons-in-law, Donna and Randy Feddema, Linda and Larry Keim all of Carstairs; Beverley Walker, Bonnie and Brian Banks and Susan and Bruce Ross all of Calgary; nine grandchildren, Sheryl Preuter (Mark Preuter), Brenda Sauer (Scott Westrop), Kelly Sauer (Brenda Kennedy), Robert Walker (Carla Giesbrecht), Richard Walker (Laurel Walker), Steven Keim (Debbie Keim), Michael Keim (Jodi Keim), David Banks, Kelsey Banks (Darren Henley); eleven great-grandchildren, Janine, Ryan, Christopher, Brandon, Brittney, Brady, Liam, Russell, Samantha, Tyler and Jacob. She is also survived by her brother Gordon Crowther of Chaplin, Saskatchewan. She is predeceased by her husband Ted, her parents, George and Mollie; her brothers, Bill and Bob; sisters Ada, Beatrice and Elizabeth. A Celebration of Helen’s life was held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, April 23, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. Graveside Service followed at Rockyview Garden of Peace.
