Obituary of Ronald David Horniachek

Ronald David (Dave) Horniachek of Calgary, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away in the arms of his family on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the age of 61 years. David was born in Avonlea, SK on January 2, 1943. He worked on his Bachelor of Arts at the College of Sequoia in California while trying out for a Major League Baseball Club. A knee injury brought him to Calgary where he remained involved in both playing and coaching fastball and softball, as well as taking up a new hobby – golf. Dave joined Willow Park Golf and Country Club in 1969, where he made many lifelong friends while trying to perfect his game. It didn’t matter if he was watching or playing – as long as it was golf. Dave was in the pipe and steel industry for many, many years, beginning his career at Canadian Phoenix in 1964. He worked at IPSCO for nineteen years before going to Christianson Pipe in 1987, where he took early retirement one and one-half years ago. Dave fought a courageous battle against lung cancer but was eventually defeated. He will remain in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Marge; daughter Leslee (Doug) Paterson; son Rob (Sheri); his mother Tena; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Dave will also be greatly missed by his cherished grandchildren, Kennedy and Jordan Paterson. He was predeceased by his father Michael. A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at Willow Park Golf and Country Club (639 Willow Park Drive S.E.) on Monday, May 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. We would be honoured if friends and family wish to share stories and tributes with us at that time.
