Obituary of Augustus Downe

On Tuesday April 20,2 004 Gus Downe of Calgary loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 years. Gus is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Audrey; sons, Dan (Wendy), Steve (Julie) and Michael; and five grandchildren, Danielle, Cassandra, Quinton, Coleman, and Tristan. Gus was born and raised in Charlottetown, PEI. He moved to Calgary in 1951 to pursue his career as an accountant. Gus retired from Channel 7 Television in 1993, after working there as Vice President of Finance for twenty-two years. Gus was an active member of the Kinsman Club and later the K-40 Club of Calgary. He was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed his retirement years playing golf, curling, skating, and skiing. Gus passed on his love of sports to his sons and grandchildren, whom he took pride in coaching and being their number 1 Fan. He had a passion for gardening and spent many summer days tending to his meticulous yard and flowers. Gus was a quiet and gentle man who will be remembered for his compassion, integrity and honesty. He loved to spend “happy times” with his family and friends. To celebrate Gus’ life, his family wishes to extend an invitation to a Memorial Service at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Sunday, April 25, 2004 at 2:30 P.M.
