Obituary of Alice Trafford

Alice Patricia Trafford of Calgary, formerly of Montreal, Quebec, died on Saturday, April 17, 2004. Alice was born and raised in Montreal. She also happily spent a lot of time at her family’s second home at St. Margaret’s in the Laurentians. A vibrant and energetic young woman in the province’s social and sporting scenes, she excelled at tennis, horseback-riding and skiing. She met her husband Ted at St. Margaret’s and they were married in 1944 in Trinidad. In the early years of their marriage, they lived and worked in the oilfields of Venezuela and Egypt, an exciting and challenging opportunity, given the political climate at the time. In 1950, Ted and Alice with their two oldest children moved to Calgary and almost immediately, Alice purchased land in Canmore, Alberta, where she and Ted “single-handedly” built a cabin. There, Alice enthusiastically introduced her rapidly expanding family to skiing, riding and the outdoor life. She and Ted later built “Deer Run” in Springbank, outside of Calgary. Alice’s beauty, energy, indomitable spirit and style were well-known, not only in Calgary but in many other places in the world. These traits stayed with her right up to her death. Alice will be missed deeply by her husband Ted and their seven children; Ted, Tyler, Geoffrey, Bill, Randolph, Katie, and Tom as well as her extended family and her brother John Tyler. Alice was predeceased by her two sisters, Marjorie Bernier and Joan Veillon. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Friday, April 23, 2004 at 11:00 A.M with the Rev. Roy Darcus and Rev. Jonathan R. Gibson officiating.
