Obituary of Lorne Eugene Wickerson

Lorne Eugene (Gene) Wickerson passed away peacefully at the Airdrie Bethany Care Centre on Wednesday, April 7, 2004. Gene is survived by Maxine, his beloved wife of fifty-six years; his sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Dawn and Blaine and Rosellyn; and his grandchildren, Brett, Byron, Brittany, and Courtney, all of Calgary. Gene is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Leon Mason of Crossfield, AB; brother Hugh Wickerson of Calgary; and a number of nieces and nephews. Gene was born in Estuary, SK on May 14, 1920. He moved to the Crossfield area with his family in 1928 where he took his schooling and worked on the family farm. Gene was a farmer all his life and was happiest on the farm. He loved the land, worked many long hours and took great pride in his farming operations. Gene was an avid sportsman, playing baseball as a young man, coaching his sons’ sports teams, refereeing hockey and umpiring baseball. He was also an accomplished curler and supported the game all of his life. Gene was an enthusiastic golfer and a member of the Carstairs Golf Club for many years. Also very involved in the community, Gene was a Life Member of the Crossfield Elks, a member of the Legion and was always there to lend a helping hand to local community projects. Gene and Maxine enjoyed numerous trips to various parts of the world and spent many wonderful winters in Arizona with friends and family. A Funeral Service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at Airdrie United Church (216 – 1st Avenue N.E., Airdrie, AB) on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 1:30 P.M.
