Obituary of Antonio Rossi

Antonio Rossi, beloved husband of Luisa of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the George Boyack Care West on Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the age of 92 years, surrounded by his loving family. He left his tired, worldly body to fly with the angels in heaven and now that spring has arrived, he can plant his perfect garden and lovingly tend it. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Antonio was born on March 25, 1912 in San Leonardo, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He worked in the mines at Crowsnest Pass and Fernie until 1956 and moved to Calgary to work with Dominion Bridge until his retirement in 1977. His favorite travel destinations were to Italy, Las Vegas and especially Disneyland. One of Antonio’s great pleasures was going to the shopping mall with Luisa, having lunch and rushing home to watch the afternoon soap operas. Antonio was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Antonio leaves behind his loving wife of seventy years, Luisa, whom he adored; and his five children, Maria (Cirillo) Giuriato, Domenico (Ellen) Rossi, Ada (Armando) Angelozzi, Terry (Heather) Rossi, and Giselle (Reg) Gerlitz. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Silvana (Jon) Dick, Dina (David) Richter, Marlies (Brett) Allan, Silvia (David) Nunez, Dario Rossi and his fiancÚ Nicole, Renato (Lena) Angelozzi, Linda (Tony) Izzo, Danielle and Nicole Gerlitz, and Mark Rossi; ten great-grandchildren, his brother Rizziero Rossi and family in Sault St. Marie, ON; numerous nieces and nephews in Italy, New York, British Columbia, and Calgary; as well as many friends. Antonio was predeceased by his granddaughter Ida Giuriato in 1978; as well as four sisters, Maria, Elisa, Concetta and Cristina; and one brother, Carmine. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. George Mariadoss, Presider.
