Obituary of Dorothy Victoria Mather

Dorothy Victoria Mather, beloved mother of Janice Mather of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital, following a lengthy illness of health complications, on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Dorothy was born Dorothy Victoria Sproule in Melfort, SK to Jennie and Herbert Sproule. She received her high school education in Melfort. On completion, Dorothy moved to Calgary to be near the mountains. In Calgary she studied and later taught at Henderson Business College. Dorothy worked for Donald H. Bain until she left to become a stay-at-home Mom. Later she worked at Mount Royal College and O.B. Allan Jewelers. Dorothy and her husband Bill were active members in the Y.M.C.A., participating in square dancing and Social Education. She was a member of Central United Church, where she taught Sunday School in her early years, and then became a member of the Adult Fellowship group which provided her with spiritual growth and sharing time with friends. In her active years, Dorothy delivered Meals on Wheels, and canvassed for and supported many health and charitable organizations. She recently resided in Dana Village where she made many friends and was enjoyed by all who knew her. Dorothy’s relationships with people were her delight. She was never too busy or in a hurry to have a chat. Dana Village provided a comfortable and safe haven where Dorothy was able to share her time with many people. She could always be found sharing a coffee with friends on a Saturday morning or playing cards with the many residents. Dorothy will be remembered by many as a truly genuine and giving person and will be missed. Besides her loving daughter and son-in-law, Janice Mather and Mark Moczorodynski, Dorothy will be especially missed by her twelve-year-old granddaughter Aurora Moczorodynski and her eighteen-month-old grandson Tristen Moczorodynski. She is also survived by her sisters, Joyce Arnold (Millar) of Lethbridge, AB, Ila Lustig (Lloyd) of Prince Albert, SK, Hazel Graden (Gerald) of Prince George, BC, and Shirley Glass of Prince Albert, SK; brother Bob Sproule (Cheryl) of Melfort, SK; as well as many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
