Obituary of Vernon David Cole

Vernon (Vern) David, beloved husband of Lil of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Monday, March 22, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Cole, Captain (ret.) Vernon (Vern) David Cole, MM, CD, PPCLI, born in Flint, Michigan, USA on the 1st day of October, 1925, passed away on the 22nd of March 2004. Vern enlisted in the RCAF on the 1st of October 1943, where he served until transferring to the Canadian Army, Active Service in January 1945. He continued to serve his country until retiring 33 years later on the 1st of October 1976. He served in Korea with the 3rd Bn. PPCLI, 1952-53, during which time he was awarded the Military Medal. Vern met Lilly Leola (Gunning) of PEI, in Saskatoon, where they were married in April 1958. Vern leaves his loving wife and sons Keith (Karen), Bruce (Pamela), Brian (Pam), Diane (Rob) Webb, and 13 much loved grandchildren, sister Margaret (Alfred) Killah and a brother Ralph (Cathy). He was predeceased by his son Vernon Wesley who passed in January 1980. In April of 1993 he was awarded the 125 Centennial Medal for Community Service, in May 1997 Vern was awarded the “Rotary Integrity Award”, and in April of 1998, Vern and Lil were presented the Calgary Community Achievement Award.
