Obituary of Sophie Ozar

Sophie Ozar, former resident of Jackson Willan Seniors’ Residence, passed away at the Glamorgan Care Centre on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, surrounded by her family at the age of 95 years. Sophie was born on May 15, 1908 in Bialoboznica, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1930. She settled in Bellevue, AB, where she married Nicholas Ozar at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church. Sophie and Nick moved to Calgary in 1960 to be closer to their family. Mom and Grandma was very devoted to her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her greatest love. We all remember Mom for her special family dinners. Besides being a dedicated homemaker, she was a great cook and enjoyed her needlework and gardening. Sophie will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Steve (Helen) and daughter, Stella Gocal (Rae), all of Calgary; five grandchildren, Dianne Ozar (Jason), Maureen (Duane) Kambeitz, Joey (Bernice), Michael (Nancy) and Cherie Gocal; seven great-grandchildren Abby, Olivia, Joseph, Marissa, Courtney, Ashley and Amanda; as well as several nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Nicholas in 1982, granddaughter Kari in 1984, and son-in-law Joe Gocal in 1986. A Private Family Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) with the Rev. Joseph J. Toole, presider.
