Obituary of James Arthur MITCHELL
March 12, 1952 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
August 13, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
Jim, beloved husband of Joanne Mitchell of Calgary, AB, passed away on August 13, 2017 after a lengthy illness bravely fought at the age of 65 years.
Born in Winnipeg, MB, Jim moved to and grew up in Chesley Ontario where he loved to fish, hunt and play sports of all kinds.
Moving to Victoria, BC, as a high school student he discovered an affinity for field hockey and joined the Canadian Armed forces militia. Always finding new hobbies he enjoyed photography, woodworking and was an aquarium enthusiast. He met his best friend and lifelong partner Joanne in Victoria and they married in 1972.
Jim worked for Shell Canada for many years where he gained his love of working with the public in promotions. This led to his involvement with the chuck wagon world where he formed many happy memories. He went on to own a Mr. Tubesteak franchise before returning to promotional sales including Bic Graphic where he excelled at making sure that his clients were happy until his courageous struggle left him unable.
Although in poor health for the last ten years he thoroughly enjoyed family time especially Sunday night dinners with everyone gathered around the table. He cherished his lifelong friendships with his friends from across Canada with whom he loved to share some wings and a good story.
Jim is survived by his loving family Joanne Mitchell; Diana (Marcus) Guedo, Barbara (Wes) Desta, David (Marian) Mitchell, Gavin (Melinda) Mitchell; six beautiful grandchildren and one grand dog; as well as his sister Trudy and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents and siblings.
