Obituary of Rose Runner

Mrs. Rose Runner, beloved wife of the late George Runner of Tsuu T’ina Nation, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at the age of 89 years. Rose was well liked and respected elder within the Tsuu T’ina Community in which she was very active and served as a committee member involved in church groups, homemakers club, and the Calgary Stampede Board for a number of years. She strongly believed in education and economic development for the Nation. Rose believed in the church and the traditional spiritual way of life and made her pilgrimage to Medjugorie, Yugoslavia in October 1990. Mom you left us so suddenly and unexpectedly as there are no words to describe the emptiness in our hearts. You loved us all deeply as we loved you and you will always be in our prayers and never forgotten. Rose is survived by four daughters, Margaret Dixon (Joe Potts), Dorthy (Ted) Ouellette, Violet (Gerald) Meguinis, and Patricia (Jerry) Simon; two sons, Tom (Beverly) Runner and Steve (Gloria) Runner; a brother Roy Otter; and a sister Violet Crowchild, daughters-in-law Mavis Runner and Dorthy Dixon She is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, Diane, Theresa, Bruce, Tommy, Darcy, Corinna, Tammy, Brenda, Terry, Teddy, Jackie, Colleen, Andrea, Pearl, Lenora, Floyd Jr., Winston, Vivian, Jessie, Conrad, Shawn, Shay, Hillary, Tara, Tanya, Stephanie, Jeremy and Jaye T; sixty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-one great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband George Runner; parents Oscar and Daisy Otter; sons, Floyd Runner and Roger Runner; grandsons Cary Runner and Sounder Runner; brother Alfred Otter; sister Lucy Big Plume. She has relatives on the Blood Reserve, Siksika Nation, Crow Agency, Montana, and Browning Montana. Wake Services will be held at the residence of the late Rose Runner (Tsuu T’ina Nation) on Sunday, February 29, 2004 at 5:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at Chiila Elementary School Gymnasium on Monday, March 1, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with the Rev. Mervin Wolf Leg officiating.
