Obituary of Eileen Lillian Galbraith

Eileen Galbraith (Sexsmith) passed away in Calgary on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 after 93 years of active living. Her zest for life impressed her family and many friends who were never surprised by her pursuit of new activities and experiences. Always active, she took up swimming in her 70’s, curled into her 80’s and never missed an opportunity to attend games or watch sports on TV. Adventure called with trips to Alaska, Australia, the Caribbean, and visits with friends and family in North America and Europe. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Spicer; a sister Ethel; brothers Wellington, Mansel and Elwood; and her firstborn, Kenneth George Sexsmith at birth. In 1936 she married George Sexsmith of Saskatoon and enjoyed thirty-three years of family happiness until his death in 1969. Eileen will forever be remembered by her children, Patricia and George Daer of Brantford, ON, Joan and David Groves and David and Linda Sexsmith, all from Calgary. She was very proud of her seven grandchildren, Don Daer; Heather and Steve Gallagher and great-granddaughters Camille and Holly; Sean Groves; Erin and Rob Goulette and great-grandsons Nathan and Andrew; Bradley Sexsmith and Terri-Lynn Beattie; Jason Sexsmith; and Megan Sexsmith. In 1975 she married Malcolm Galbraith and established a loving relationship with his family, Neil and Pat Galbraith, Jean and Terry Finch, Don and Pat Galbraith, Margaret and John Montgomery, Argyle and Neil Gallichan, and Ann Galbraith. Their children and grandchildren will also miss her. Malcolm also predeceased her in 1992. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Monday, March 1, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com. On July 4, 2004 there will be a family picnic in Saskatoon, followed by a short ceremony when her ashes will be interred. Details of this will be provided later.
