Obituary of Gwendoline Oldroyd

Gwendoline Avril Oldroyd, beloved wife of David Oldroyd of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, February 22, 2004 at the age of 60 years, after a battle with lung cancer. Gwen was born in Ranikhet, India and made her home in many places around the world, including Germany, Egypt, Libya, Kenya, and Leeds, England. Gwen and David were married in Leeds on September 24, 1975 and immigrated to Calgary in 1980. They and their family have lived here since. Gwen was well-known among brides in Calgary as one of the areas most creative cake decorators, having built a successful business over the past ten years and won top awards at the Calgary Stampede for her works. She was an avid gardener and dog lover. She is lovingly remembered by her husband David; two surviving sisters Patsy Saxton of USA and Jo Andrewes of Wales; a son Richard J. Brown and Rhonda Bell; a daughter and son-in-law Kate and John Behr; two daughters Sarah and Claire Oldroyd; and two grandchildren, Eleanor and Darius Behr; as well as many friends. Gwen was predeceased by her sister Cindy Handziuk of Claresholm. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. with the Rev. Shane Sinclair officiating.
