Obituary of Mary Ellen Spence

Mary Ellen Spence of Calgary passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, February 20, 2004 at the age of 97 years. Mary was born on December 23, 1906 in Ontario. She moved with her father, Samuel Gray, to Chauvin, AB in 1924. Mary married Adam Spence and together they farmed in the Chauvin district for many years, later moving to Calgary. She is survived by four daughters, Bernice (Frank) Kisio, Betty Darling, Margaret (Bob) Polloway, and Carol (Eugene) Bogart; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and family friends, Larry Kenyon and Ed Kajala. Mary was predeceased by her husband Adam; parents, Rachel and Samuel Gray; two brothers, William and Elliot; three sisters, Gertrude, Hazel Beam and Eva Townsend; and two sons-in-law, Lyn Herbert and George Darling. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. P.H. Burrill officiating.
