Obituary of Alwyn Frances Needham

Alwyn Frances Needham of Calgary, passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the age of 74 years. Born September 16, 1929 in Nanton, AB. Allie looked for the fun and joy in life, beginning with a childhood farm near Nanton. She raised her own family on acreages east of Calgary, where she watched her children grow and thrive and enjoy all that country living had to offer. A highlight was a memorable year spent in New Zealand. Allie had a meaningful career and wonderful friendships at the Hudson Bay Company before retiring to Camrose and eventually back to Calgary. She was a great organizer and she helped orchestrate many family reunions and potluck dinners enjoyed by all. Allie’s laugh was contagious and we all loved to laugh with her. She will be sadly missed but her love and spirit will live on in all who knew her. Allie was the loving mother of Valerie Guenther and Faye Burgess of Edmonton, Rena (Bert) Coghill of Strathmore, Dick Burgess of Tumbler Ridge and Brian (Mary) Burgess of Calgary; treasured grandmother of nine grandchildren, Curtis, Trenton, Justin, Jenny, Leah, Caitlan, Sam, Megan and Danielle. She is also survived by two sisters, Louise (Herb) Hogg and Iris (Irwin) Perrault; and three brothers, Evan (Dorothy), Jim (Yvonne) and Bob (Eva) Evans; numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends at Austin Nixon Manor. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 215 – 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 1A2. Telephone: (403) 205-3966.
