Obituary of Frances Jane Thorpe

Mrs. Frances Thorpe, beloved wife of John of DeWinton, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the age of 61 years. Born on July 15, 1942 in Downham Market, England and raised in Kelso, Scotland. Frances received her nursing training in Kelso and worked in Edinburgh. She met John in Edinburgh and they married there in 1965 and moved to Dawson Creek, BC, where they resided until 1968. Frances and John have resided in Calgary since 1972. Frances had many diverse interests. She was involved in the Calgary Garden Club, having been responsible for the junior club for several years. Frances was a member of the Calgary Horticultural Society. As a member of the Calgary Rose Society, she served as president for two years, growing prize-winning roses. She was an active member of the Red Cross and volunteered every Wednesday as a quilter. Frances had a fondness for all animals, but had a particular love for her Scottish Terriers, whom she was proud to show. As a talented artist, Frances was active in many different crafts. She was a proud Mum and Grandma and thoroughly enjoyed her home and family. Besides her loving husband, Frances is also survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Lisa Thorpe and Bruce Thorpe, all of Calgary; her daughter and son-in-law Helen and Jim Manzara of Lethbridge; and five grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Zachary, Cassandra, and Tyree. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law George and Claire Telfer; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Marie Thorpe all of England. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at 2:30 P.M.
