Obituary of Vera Barton
A beautiful red rose has been called to God’s garden. Vera Jean Barton, beloved wife of John (Jack) Van Orman Barton of Calgary, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on Saturday, January 31, 2004 after a lengthy illness at the age of 86 years.
Vera was born in Taber, AB on April 2, 1917. After receiving her schooling in Taber, followed by a course at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Vera became a leader in Youth Training classes in Taber and outlying districts. She married the love of her life, Jack, in Taber on June 30, 1939. During the course of their marriage they lived in Taber, Peace River, Edmonton and Calgary and raised five children. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and will always be remembered by friends and family as the gentle, sweet lady with the “fighting Irish spirit”.
Besides her loving husband Jack, Vera is survived by three sons Robert, Patrick and Peter; two daughters Gloria Jean and Kelly; four daughters-in-law Joyce, Janice, Angie and Sonya; close family friend Mirella; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth (Bessie) Hamman, sister-in-law Doris Redel, and a brother-in-law, Dwaine (Dee) Jensen all of Lethbridge. Vera is predeceased by her parents George and Sarah; sister Kathleen, brother George, and one grandchild Travis.
A Celebration of Vera’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North), on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at 2:30 P.M.
