Obituary of James Montgomery

James “Garth” Montgomery, beloved husband of Mrs. Maureen Montgomery of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the age of 81 years. Garth was born November 21, 1922 in Winnipeg, MB. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and served overseas with Squadron 420, The Snowy Owls. Following his return to Canada, Garth worked with the Hudson Bay Company in Winnipeg and later in Calgary. He left the Bay to begin his career as a system analyst with Shell Canada, where he remained for more than twenty-five years until his retirement. Garth enjoyed going camping, and was a real “do-it-yourself” man, completing many projects around the home. He was a fan of many sports, but especially enjoyed watching the Calgary Flames. In 1970 Garth married Maureen and embarked on what he frequently referred to as “the best years of his life”, despite his long illness. Besides his loving wife Maureen, Garth is survived by six daughters and four sons-in-law, Darlene Montgomery, Marilynne and John Michaud, Trish and Joe Thiessen, Deb and Randy Hennig, Lori Montgomery, and Jennifer and Demetrios Georgeadis; six grandsons, John, Jayson, Joe, Chris, Corey and James; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Mae Montgomery, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Garth was predeceased by his parents, a brother Irwin, a sister Shirley, and his first wife Betty, with whom he had four beautiful daughters. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Friday, January 23, 2004 at 7:00 P.M.
