Obituary of Jeanie Strang Martin

Jeanie (Jean) Strang Martin (nee Fraser) of Calgary passed away at the Care West Sarcee on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the age of 92 years. Jean was born in Scotland on June 23, 1911. She immigrated with her family to Chancellor, AB in 1920. Jean had a fifty year association with the Calgary Stampede teaching square dancing. She and her husband traveled throughout North America also teaching square dancing. Jean was very active in the Home and School Association, and was very artistic creating many crafts. You’d never see her hands idle. A highlight in her retirement years was spending winters in Palm Springs and San Diego area. Jean touched many lives and will always be fondly remembered. Jean is survived by two daughters Donna (Gordon) Platt of High River and Janice (Al) Gaxiola of Arizona; a son Fraser Martin of Calgary; eight grandchildren Jennifer (David) Knowles of Houston, TX, Debbie (Byron) Holmes of Dallas, TX, Patsy (Kevin) Knutson of Calgary, Marty Richardson of Butte, MT, Terri DeMan of Calgary, Sandi Star of Carlsbad, CA, Stephen (Kim) Platt of Mississauga, ON, Suzanne (Roy) Babiuk of Barrhead, AB; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Donald Martin in 1999, nine brothers, a sister and three grandsons.
