Obituary of John Alexander Dunlop

John Alexander Dunlop passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at the age of 82 years. Jack was born and educated in Winnipeg and served in the RCAF during World War II. He then worked with various firms and later founded his own company, J. Dunlop Agencies where he remained until retirement. He and his family resided in Winnipeg until 1958 when they moved to Brandon. In 1965 the family moved to Calgary where they continue to reside. Jack was active in many organizations, Lion’s Club, President of the Mentally Challenged Association, and he was Chairman of the Board for the Associated Canadian Travellers (ACT). He was a member of Brandon Lodge 19, and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry (32 degree). Jack was the commander of the Tin Lizzy Corp in 1979 and in 1983 became the President of the Calgary Shrine Club. In 1988 he served as Illustrious Potentate of Alazhar Temple and then became a Life Member of Alazhar Temple and an Honorary member of Alazhar Mounted Patrol. He is survived by Olga Dunlop, his beloved wife of fifty-seven years and his four children, Catherine (Gerald) Dux, Sharon (Donald) Foulkes, Robert Dunlop (fiancÚ Terri Janzen), and Thomas Dunlop; six grandchildren, Cassandra Dux (Jeffery Dyck), Christopher Dux (Annissa Brodie), Patricia Foulkes-Smith (Steven Smith), Jacqueline Foulkes, John Dunlop and Michael Dunlop; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Sydney, James and Paige. Jack is also survived by his sister Margaret Lloyd of Winnipeg, MB and his nieces and nephews, Vaughan, Janice, David, Diane, Neil and their families. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Dunlop, and his sister Mary Dunlop. Throughout his life Jack was devoted to his family and therefore in keeping with his wishes, a Private Family Memorial service will be held to celebrate his love of life.
