Obituary of Mary Noreen Ayer

Noreen Ayer, beloved wife of John Ayer of Calgary, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at the age of 77 years. Noreen Ayer, friend, teacher, poet, musician… The life has gone out of the party. Where is the girl who delighted us with a dance, a joke and a tune on the piano? How she made us laugh! She was unique because she was always herself. She saw the good in all of us, and she loved us. The dance and song were still in her beautiful eyes until the end. She gave us her love through those deep blue eyes looking into your soul. The infectious beautiful laughter that made us want to live and sing and dance and love as she loved us and to be like her by being ourselves. She could see your troubled soul, then send a healing laugh into the depths of despair. Despair didn’t stand a chance! Who knows how many lives were touched by this wonderful lady? She taught us about goodness, beauty and truth. That, she said, is God. Then she showed us without having to preach – she showed us by how she lived – what goodness, beauty and truth are. We are all so blessed to have been loved by her! We love you, Bitsie. The hawthorne trees Hang over shadowed sod There lies delight; There walks my God Beloved angels Guard all those I love And I will ride and rest, and peaceful be Until they come to me. – From a poem by Noreen Ayer Besides her loving husband John, Noreen is remembered by her children, Johnny and Liz Ayer and their children Paula and Carl, Andrea and Garth Racher, Paul and Diana Ayer and their children Paul and Alexander, Mary Ellen and Jim Pollock and their children Aaron and Sally. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Ernie and Sue McCullough, Suzanne and Mel Shannon, Danny and Shelley McCullough, and Barbara McCullough, as well as numerous relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Dorothea McCullough. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with the Rev. Rupert A. MacLellan, Presider.
