Obituary of Adelina Cortese

Adelina Cortese (nee Guida) of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep, at the Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, January 11, 2004 at the age of 70 years. Adelina was born on August 24, 1933 in Castelsilano, Italy. She loved to cook and take care of the household and her family. She was also a gifted poet. In 1974, nonna Adelina and her husband, along with her youngest daughter Lina, immigrated to Canada to be reunited with their other two daughters, Saverina and Caterina. In 1988 Adelina decided to return to Castelsilano to enjoy the company of her other grandchildren and daughters. In 1999, she returned to her second home where she lived the last years of her life. She was loved by family and friends all over Italy and Canada and we will dearly miss nonna Adelina. Adelina is survived by her husband Francesco Cortese and will be dearly missed by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Caterina and Frank Fabiano of Calgary, Saverina and Pasquale Scalise of Castelsilano, Italy and Lina and Luigi Pandullo of Rossano, Italy. She will be affectionately remembered by her seven grandchildren, Vince, Maria and Adelina of Calgary; Giuseppe and Gianfranco of Castelsilano; and Giuseppe and Francesco of Rossano. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North), today, January 13, 2004 at 8:45 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Of Grace Italian & English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 10:30 A.M.
