Obituary of Giuseppe Mercia

Giuseppe Mercia of Calgary passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Thursday, December 25, 2003 at the age of 82 years. Giuseppe was born on March 19, 1921 in Castiglione, Sicily. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and settled in Calgary. He worked for the City of Calgary for twenty-eight years. Giuseppe loved to hunt and fish, but his true enjoyment came from gardening, his greenhouse and his family. He always had a smile and a sparkle in his eye whenever he saw his grandchildren. Giuseppe is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years Antonina; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Salvatore, John and Diane, Vincenzo, and Frank and Rosa; and four grandchildren, Joseph, Michelle, Antonina, and John. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Salvatore and Gerda of Condor, AB and Nunzio and Margaret of Thunder Bay, ON and a sister and brother-in-law, Severina and Nunzio Lomonaco of Australia. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Maria and Grazia of Castiglione, Sicily. Giuseppe will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
