Obituary of William Preston Allen
William (Bill) Preston Allen, beloved husband of Ruth Allen, passed away at Rockyview General Hospital on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the age of 81 years.
Bill was born on January 14, 1922 in Imperial, SK. As a young man Bill left the prairies and travelled to Ontario to attend Queens University. His career with Imperial Oil was long and colourful starting out under the mentorship of Doc Sproule, becoming a “jug hustler” and later a “shooter” on Seismic Party #43 which found the anomally chosen as Leduc #1. During these years Bill courted Ruth Alseth and they married in October, 1950. In the 50’s Bill became Chief Scout for Imperial Oil and President-Elect of the National Oil Scouts and Landmen’s Association.
After Bill’s retirement from Imperial Oil in 1980, he continued his checkered golfing career and developed a passion for restoring M.G. sports cars for which, unlike his golfing, he actually won prizes.
Besides his loving wife, Bill will be missed by Kimball Allen of Vancouver, Lindsay McKenzieie of Calgary, Nancy and Les Myers of Calgary and William P. Allen Jr. of Edson; five grandchildren, Kris Laudien, Philip Laudien, Mary Lou McKenzie, Courtney McKenzie and Sydney McKenzie. Bill was predeceased by his sister Joan Lyons.
When the sun shone over the yardarm, Bill was front and centre for enjoying Happy Hour with friends and family.
