Bridget Tunney

Obituary of Bridget Agnes Tunney

Bridget (Mary) Tunney, surrounded by her family, went to join her beloved husband Luke Tunney on Wednesday, December 10, 2003. Bridget was born in Kilgarriff, Ireland. She worked as a Pediatric Nurse in England during the war before immigrating to Canada and settling in Calgary in 1953. She worked for a number of years at Calgary Packers Ltd, before she met the love of her life Luke, and married in 1958. As an active member in the Haysboro Community, Bridget could often be found working at the hockey rink concession in the winter, and throughout the year supporting her son’s sporting activities as a “sports mom”. She will be remembered for knitting beautiful winter jackets & sweaters, and for her fearless tobogganing and roller-skating adventures. The passion and pride in Bridget’s life were her four boys. She was their teacher, friend, mentor, and above all their “Mom”. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to listen, sing, and dance to Irish music. Bridget’s gentle spirit, good humor, and quiet confidence made her a joy to be with. She will be lovingly remembered for her wonderful smile and good cheer to everyone. Bridget’s dedication and great love for her family and grandchildren will never be forgotten. Each time we sit down for a meal, listen to Irish music, or share a story together, Grandma will be fondly remembered. Bridget is survived by her four sons, Alan (Maxine), Kevin, Barry (Angela) and Vincent (Fern); and grandchildren Megan, Kelsey, Tyler, Alexandra, Victoria, Lukas, and Zachary; and by her brother Tom (Mary) Phillips of England.
