John Michael Goyeche

Obituary of John Raymond Michael Goyeche

John R. M. Goyeche (Dr. John), passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 2, 2003. Born in Montreal, Dr. John earned his B.A. from McGill University and his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo. His post-doctoral studies took him to Japan, where he immersed himself in eastern philosophies, and India, where he studied Yoga. He taught University and did research in Japan and Canada, and performed advocacy and consulting work, as well as private practice. He authored several books in Japanese and English. Dr. John was a man of many interests, but always an avid fisherman and fly-tier, as well as an accomplished jazz guitarist. During his life, he always fought on the side of right, battling for those not able to fight for themselves. Dr. John fought for all of us when he took on the government, as he did when he led the protest against the testing of the cruise missile. In reflection, we respect the strong moral values that forced Dr. John to always speak his mind, regardless of the repercussions to his own security. He was loved and will be missed by his friends and family, wife Chieko, sons Shane, Jaya, Junta and Ananda; grandsons Emerson, Keegan, Carter and Aiden; sister Dawn, niece Teal, and his parents, John and Iris Goyeche of Penticton, BC. In living memory of John Goyeche, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W., CALGARY, TELEPHONE: (403) 243-8200.
