Obituary of Frederic Richards

Frederic Richards, beloved husband of the late Joyce Richards, passed away at the Beverly Care Centre, Midnapore on Monday, November 24, 2003 at the age of 93 years. Frederic was born on August 5, 1910 in Staffordshire, England and immigrated to Canada in 1930. He attended the University of British Columbia and graduated from the Department of Engineering in 1935. Frederic met Joyce in Wells, BC where he was Chief Mining Engineer at the Caribou Gold Quartz Mine. They married on October 9, 1940 in Vernon, BC. Frederic was in the mining industry in BC until 1957. He later was in the oil and gas industry until his retirement in 1977. Frederic was an avid square dancer from 1969 until 1989. He also enjoyed badminton and tennis. He resided in Calgary from 1969 until the present day. Frederic is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathryn and Steve Vaneck of Vernon, BC, Brenda Richards, Laurie and Grant Moffat all of Calgary; and four grandchildren, Diana Vaneck, Steven (Melissa) Vaneck and their son Johnathan, Stephanie Moffat and Bobby Moffat. He is also survived by his sister Doris Harper of Cornwall, England and numerous nieces and nephews. Frederic was predeceased by his wife Joyce in 1981; two brothers John Richards and George Richards and a sister Hilda Baxter An “Open house of remembrance” will be held at the residence of Laurie and Grant Moffat, (4 Brabourne Rise S.W.), on Sunday, November 30, 2003 from 1:30 – 3:30P.M.
