Obituary of Elizabeth Grace Ellen McCool

Elizabeth was born September 26, 1948 in Leeds, England, and passed away November 26, 2003 in Calgary, at the Foothills Hospital, having bravely lived with the effects of breast cancer for eleven years. Her parents were Dr. Eustace Abbott Horne and Grace Mildred Frith Horne (Eyre). Elizabeth was the youngest of four children, having three older brothers. Her childhood was spent in Nottingham, England. On leaving school Liz trained as a nurse in Cambridge, qualifying as a midwife in London, and as a Health Visitor in Oxford. She later graduated with a BA degree in Archaeology at Cardiff University. In 1988 Liz immigrated to Canada, taking up nursing again, retiring because of ill health in 2002 from the position of Lactation Consultant at The Children’s Hospital. In 1995 Liz married Norman, with eight happy and adventurous years following. Elizabeth’s interests and enthusiasms were many and varied. She traveled widely, loved the outdoors and nature as well as more intellectual pursuits, tried her hand at many activities, was enthusiastic about natural healing, and actively promoted breast cancer support and research. Most especially Liz made a large number of friends, who will miss her deeply.
