Obituary of Carole Marie POLL

October 1, 1944 – Calgary, Alberta April 20, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta Carole Poll (nee Kean) passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the age of 72 years. A survivor, in the course of her adult life Carole beat ovarian cancer, lung cancer and C.O.P.D. so that she could do what she loved most: spend time with family, read, dance, travel, learn new things, knit, quilt, camp, garden and work at being the best mother, daughter, sister, nurse, wife, “ninni”, and friend she could be. Carole drew her last breath peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre surrounded by love on April 20 after a short battle with pneumonia. Carole graduated as an R.N. from St. Michael’s Hospital in Lethbridge in 1967, and subsequently cared for patients all over Alberta in a variety of hospitals and clinics. In 2003 she retired from her distinguished career as Palliative Homecare Coordinator for Calgary Health Services, a role she was especially proud of. Along with working at a career she loved, Carole raised four children with her soul-mate and spouse of 47 years, David. Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Kirsten (Dale), Maeghan (Jeff), Graeme (Lindsay) and Evan (Tasha); her twelve grandchildren, Tyler (Kayla), Jin, Vivian, Quinn, Freyja, Jocelyn, Thane, Aila, Kai, Kaiya, Lily and David and one great-grandchild, Cohen. Carole was predeceased by her husband David, her parents Paul and Winifred Kean and her younger sister Brenda, but is survived by her mother-in-law, Norma, her sisters-in-law Susan and Karen (Richard), her sister Linda (Laz) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Carole will be especially missed by her constant companion these last few years, her Schnauzer, Jiggs. Our one consolation in this time of loss is that Carole is now reunited with her beloved David in their eternal rest. During her many health struggles, Carole was blessed with much love and support from many caregivers. Her family especially want to thank her oncologist, Dr. Desiree Hao; her respirologist Dr. John Chan and her family physicians Dr. Susan Kinnie and Dr. Jemma Li for caring so well for Carole. “LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT THE MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY.” A Celebration of Carole’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O.
