Condolences
I will miss you I loved working with you Rest In Peace Duke. Loved you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Will have fond memories of Wayne. He was a kind man and incredible hiking leader and helped me gain confidence in my abilities in the outdoors. Always enjoyed our outings.
I was fortunate to enjoy many hikes with Wayne through Slow and Steady Hikers. As soon as I saw that Wayne posted a trip, I immediately signed up. It didn’t really matter what the hike was…the important thing to me was that Wayne was leading it. I knew it would be a great trip because Wayne’s relaxed and easy going manner made everyone feel welcome. I am so sad to hear of Wayne’s passing. Last year, my own husband passed away from cancer at the age of 62. So I have some understanding of the deep grief that comes with the loss of a husband. My heart goes out to you, and I hope you are able to somewhere find some peace at this painful time.
So sorry for your loss. During my year in Calgary, I hiked with Wayne and Slow and Steady Hikers. He was a lovely, patient leader who made all of feel welcome. I admired how dedicated he was to hiking and the club.
Will be thinking of you and am so sorry for your loss,
I am so sorry for your loss. This is a shock for so many of us hikers and I still find it difficult to believe. Wayne was a great leader, patient, encouraging and fun, I felt safe with him when doing hikes that were hard for me. He leaves great memories and will not be forgotten. Thanks for everything Wayne, and happy trails up there in Heaven.

My sincere condolences to the Johns family. I am one of the many Slow & Steady hikers who were so fortunate to have shared the trails with Wayne. He was a kind and caring leader, in his quiet thoughtful manner. I will cherish the hiking memories that Wayne has given me. Happy trails Wayne.
My deepest sympathy to Wayne’s beloved family.
It was my honour to have known Wayne as a fellow letter carrier and union representative, but above all, as leader of innumerable hikes. Wayne’s love of the mountains, outdoor activities, generosity, and acceptance without judgement helped so many beginner-hikers to gain confidence and succeed.
Your kindness and friendship will be greatly missed and remembered always.
I’ve lost a good Friend and hiking buddy. Since I met Wayne some years ago, I always looked forward to sharing time on the hiking trail, enjoying his soft spoken, gentle and unassuming nature.
When he shared his health concerns on a hike in December it was in his soft spoken way that underlined its debilitating condition. As we continued to share through the winter that quality endured.
My Friend, you are sorely missed by me and the many, many people you have touched.
My heartfelt condolences to Wayne’s family. I am among the many who through Slow and Steady hiked with Wayne. I remember him as a kind and gentle soul. A huge loss for his family and also a huge loss to the S & S hiking community.
Allison, I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family… from myself and my Mom. Xxx
I am so sorry for your loss. Wayne was my favourite person to go on hikes with. He will be missed. Rest easy Wayne. Love Kim (and Kevin) Jackson
I hiked with Wayne on occasion through Slow and Steady Hikers. He was an honorable and caring man who loved leading and organizing hikes for members. I enjoyed his company on my urban walks and am so sorry for your loss.
Dear Allison, Caleb, and Chloe,
With confidence I can say on behalf of hundreds of hikers that it was a blessing and honor to spend time with Wayne in the outdoors. His commitment to nurture a love for the outdoors through Slow and Steady inspired many of us to new heights. Under his gentle guidance, and wise ways, many of us saw sights we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. For these reasons, we share in the celebration of his life, and mourn his passing.
Respectfully
Corinne Webb
Dear family, John was everyone’s favorite hiking leader, including mine. He was so patient and kind. He kick started my love of hiking, and as an organizer I always try to model John’s leadership style. We will all miss him greatly. RIP John, we love you.
As a good friend of Wayne, we spent many hours together hiking in our club. He was a great leader and he brought much so happiness to so many people. With his dry wit and keen intelligence, he was a great example as a human being, teaching patience with his gentle ways and his great love for the outdoors and comradeship. Wishing both him and his family well.
Wayne was always great to hike with. He was always calm and friendly which always made for a warm atmosphere on his hikes. His leadership showed with the dedication that he organized hikes and the concern for safety he showed for everyone.
My condolences to his family.
I did many hikes and city walks with Wayne over the few years I lived in Alberta. I will always remember those hikes as my happiest time in the Rockies. Wayne was such a gentleman and a gentle leader with a good dose of humor, always ready to help . He made me love the mountains, respect them and want to explore them. We will all miss you terribly Wayne. Sincere condolences Allison, Caleb and Chloe.
I am so sorry for your loss. I am just one of the many many hikers that were inspired by Wayne’s passion for our Rockies. He will always be remembered for his calm disposition and keen sense of humour.
I was sadden to hear about the passing of Wayne. I met Wayne in 2014 through the Slow & Steady Hiking Group. Wayne was very inclusive in all his hikes. Because of him, I explored new paths south and west of Calgary. He was very easy going, fun to chat with and a good model as an organizer and outdoor lover. I last saw him on a hike he organized on December 1, 2018. He will be dearly missed by all his hiking friends, especially me.
My condolences to Allison, his children, grand-child, close friends and other family members.
