Obituary of Hugh RODRIGUEZ
Hugh Rodriguez of Calgary, AB died peacefully at his care home at Evanston at the age of 92.
Hugh was born near Glasgow, Scotland in 1924 and came to Canada in 1926 with his family to live in Quebec. When the family answered the call to Spain during the Spanish Civil War, Hugh and his two sisters began their lives anew for the second time. Unfortunately with the Second World War looming, Spain was no place for British-Canadian subjects. Hugh’s mother was forced to send the three children to live in England where they attended school, grew up and worked in war-time London.
When the war was over, Hugh’s sister Hope began to bring the family back together in Calgary, and Hugh was the last to arrive. He married the lovely Patricia Hinckley in 1953 with whom he lived happily for 54 years.
Hugh was a machinist by trade, but in Canada soon started with Amerada Minerals. He had a 31 year long successful career, retiring as drafting supervisor in 1984.
Hugh was most notably an avid and accomplished golfer who made many golf trips with his friends to Arizona, with Patty to South Carolina and when in town, golf at Inglewood. He was an early supporter of Inglewood G&C and Honorary Member, golfing until 2014. He will be missed for his many stories – golf and otherwise.
Hugh was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2000, sister Hope Risdahl in 2014 and nephew Greg Baldick in 2015. He is survived by his sister Dolores Baldick and niece and nephews Shelley Blackadar, Stephen Baldick, Brent Hinckley and Peter Risdahl and their spouses and children.
Thanks go out to the medical and domestic staff at Evanston Grand Village in making a home for Hugh and to his golfing friends who supported him and visited to the end.
As per his wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of life at Inglewood G&CC is being planned, time to be announced. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
