Obituary of Carmine Nino Angelo ELIA

ELIA, Carmine “Nino” Angelo June 28, 1950 – Bianchi, Italy March 3, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta It is we heavy hearts we announce the passing of Carmine “Nino” Elia. Nino passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at the age of 66 years following a two and a half year battle with colon cancer. He was predeceased by his father Francesco and his loving wife Hanne. He is survived by his partner Colleen Skipper, daughter Angela, son David and wife Sue, his mother Maria, his brother Elio and wife Cindy, the apple of his eye granddaughter Katie, his new grandson Scottie and many, many other loving family members and friends. Nino was born in Bianchi, Italy, June 28th, 1950. The family immigrated to Canada in 1952 and settled in Fernie, BC. After high school Nino moved to Calgary and attended Mount Royal College. Upon graduation he obtained a position with the Bank of Montreal and after travelling around Central Alberta, eventually secured a permanent position in Calgary. He soon discovered that a desk life was not for him and upon resigning formed a contracting company with his cousin Bruno. This began his long career and relationship with the Sirianni family. While in Calgary he began dating his long time high school friend Hanne Andersen and the two were married in 1975. Together they shared twenty-seven years of devoted marriage and raised their two loving children; Angela born in 1978 and David in 1980. Following Hanne’s passing in 2002, Nino met his new love Colleen Skipper. The two of them built a new life together and greatly enjoyed travelling across Canada and the USA with their camper and Nino’s new dream boat. None of us could have asked or even hoped for a better companion or support for Nino during his battle with cancer as she stayed by his side with an unwavering dedication to his needs. In 2013, Nino had the joy of watching Dave and Sue get married, and in 2015, the light of his life, his first granddaughter, Kaitlyn was born. Nino spent as much time as he could with Katie, and she adored him as much as he her. He stretched his final days out long enough to be present on this earth for the birth of his grandson, Scottie born March 2, 2017. In true Nino fashion, he asked that in lieu of flowers “please take someone you love out for dinner”. He will truly be missed by many. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Mausoleum.
