Obituary of David HORODEZKY
In Tribute to David Horodezky – an absolute original
David Horodezky passed away Monday, February 6 joining beloved family, friends, pets and rock’n roll heroes he sincerely missed on earth.
We have taken a couple of tributes written by dear friends to share a bit about his life.
From Harold Finkelman:
He took the responsibility for his friends and partners when they were sometimes being exploited and burned, in what should only have been a beautiful world of music and culture. Being the buffer zone may have cultivated trust issues. But when he found the safe havens, he was warm and creative and desperate to release the romance and sensitivity that made him such a unique impresario that brought so many audiences and artists together for memorable and sometimes historic moments. He was a jewel in the community’s crown.
From Bryan Tucker:
In the formative years of concert promotion during the ‘70’s, one company, one team and one man set a standard for creative marketing, artist potential commerciality , personal, unique artist care and brilliant results. I was blessed to not only witness, but benefit professionally from these attributes and results consistently delivered by David and his superb team at the legendary Brimstone Productions. As a “record label” guy, I was fortunate to work closely with David, which became a 40+ year personal friendship.
David was highly regarded by world class acts including the likes of Anne Murray, Bryan Adams, Meatloaf, Loverboy, Rod Stewart, Supertramp, Neil Diamond, The Who, Queen, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Chris De Burgh, Dire Straits, and many more. Over the years, Brimstone concerts entertained hundreds of thousands of music lovers from Winnipeg to Victoria, indoors and out.
David also established the “Arena Cross” motorcycle events in football stadiums and hockey rinks. His professional legacy, from club owner in the 60’s to premiere concert promoter in the 70’s, 80’s well into the 90’s is secure. David was fiercely loyal, protective and loving to family and close friends. Like many others, my life was much richer with him in it. We will miss his intensity, humour and conversations across a wide band of topics and interests. You never had to speculate where David stood as he unflinchingly stated his opinion immediately, if not sooner. We will miss David desperately already and shall for the rest of our lives.
God Bless, dear friend and may you rest in peace.
David is survived by his son Jason Horodezky, his daughter Trudie Lee Horodezky, six beautiful granddaughters and Anodie (beloved puggle). A graveside service will be held at Erlton Cemetery Friday, February 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
