Obituary of Edward John KATTLER
February 13, 1933 – Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan
January 19, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
Edward “Ed” John Kattler beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on January 19, 2017 at the age of 83 years.
Ed worked in the insurance industry for his entire career, he started at Osler Hammond and Nanton as a clerk in 1953 and later became an insurance broker for Johnson Higgins and Willis Faber, and he retired at the age of 62 after being an assistant manager of the Calgary branch office and teaching insurance courses at S.A.I.T.
Ed had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since the 1960’s reaching the 3rd and 4th degree membership level. He was a member of the Insurance Institute of Alberta and was an honorary life member.
Ed had several interests including art, golf, gardening, photography, writing poetry, curling and traveling. He was a great handyman and enjoyed building and woodworking. Above all he was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife Jeanne; his daughter Karen Yackel and her husband John Yackel; grandchildren Lauren and Selina Clausen of Airdrie; step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Katelyn and Tyler Yackel; sister-in-laws Leah, Joan and Virginia Chapdelaine; brother-in-law George Chapdelaine; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, January 27 at 11:00 A.M. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
