Obituary of Mary GALLAGHER

November 4, 1920 – Newcastle On Tyne, England March 5, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta Marie Gallagher of Calgary, AB passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the age of 98 years. Marie was the youngest of a family of eleven. In 1926 she immigrated with her family to Sundre, Alberta and received schooling there, and at Olds and SAIT. In 1941 she married Patrick Gallagher of Nanton. Together they farmed in Nanton and Brant districts, raising a family of two boys and two girls. They moved to property in the DeWinton area in 1970, and into the city of Calgary in 1987. Marie was an active volunteer in the community, particularly in areas of service to those who live with the condition of mental handicap. She was an honourary member of Calgary Association for the Mentally Handicapped, past President of Alberta Association for Community Living and recipient of their Integration Action Award, and member of Calgary Citizen Advocacy Society and Calgary Community Living Society. Marie was also active in St. Patrick’s Parish, the C.W.L and choir, Brant Home and School Association. Marie is survived by son Edward (Karen) Gallagher; daughters, Maureen (Tom) Boucher and Anne-Marie Gallagher; grandchildren, Collette (Rich) Clevenger and Anita Boucher (Scott), Taggart (Melissa) Gallagher and Kelly Gallagher (Mike),Heidi Pisani (Fernando), Tessa Parent (Bruno), and Danny Parent (Alyx); Great-grandchildren; Alexa, Teo and Jaxon Pisani, Ashton and Ella Gallagher, Colton and Parker Boyes; sister-in-law Nancy Jackson. She was predeceased by her husband Pat in 1988, her son Daniel in 1983, her parents and nine brothers, eight sisters-in-law, one sister and one brother-in-law. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church () on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
