Obituary of Kimberly May MCPHAIL
Lovingly Remembered
It is with great sadness we share the passing of Kimberly May McPhail, born on May 16, 1958 and passed away, after a 2 year battle with brain cancer, on November 18, 2016 at the age of 58 years.
Kim was born to Jim and Joan Carlton (nee Willett) in Yakima, Washington. Kim and her mother moved to Vancouver, BC to be closer to family when Kim was 5 years old. Kim’s mom married Kryl Faulk when Kim was 8 years old and sister Kelly was born when Kim was 9. Kim and Kelly enjoyed a very close and special relationship especially during their formative years. Sadly, Kim’s mother passed away when Kim was 10 years old. Kryl remarried, and through a loving adoption Kryl and Grace (and new brother Barry) were mom and dad from her preteen years. Kim’s Aunt Genevieve Jackson and Kim’s Grandparents William and Matilda Willett also made significant contributions to Kim’s upbringing. Kim kept in contact with her birth father’s family and, in her early 20’s, had the joy of renewing her relationship with her father and extended family. Later Kim’s father had a second daughter Julie Ann who Kim lovingly welcomed as her new sister. Kim has always been thankful for all those who loved and cared for her throughout her life.
Kim graduated from Salmon Arm High School as well as Okanagan Bible College. In 1981 Kim moved to Calgary to find a job and found employment at Amoco Oil. Shortly after moving to Calgary, Kim met Bill McPhail and they were married on July 23, 1983 in Sicamous, BC but Calgary, Alberta was home. Children Michael, Matthew and Marlee were born to the McPhail family in the late 1980’s and then later in 2006 daughters Anna and Annie Hu became part of the family. After leaving Amoco in 1986 Kim’s main focus was her family, but she also enjoyed working part time at Dart Bryant Accounting for several years.
Kim’s Church home was Bow Waters Community Church (Bowood Gospel Chapel) for over 30 years where she worshipped and served faithfully through hospitality, teaching Sunday school, community outreach and leading worship. Kim loved music and was also a member of the acapella singing group “Chordially Yours”.
Kim was greatly loved and is survived by her loving husband Bill, children Michael and Matthew McPhail, Marlee (Colin) Ryley, Anna and Annie Hu, mother Grace Faulk, sister Kelly (Barry) Rokosh, brother Barry Martinson, sister Julie Ann (Robert) Leach as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
