Obituary of Susan CASWELL
CASWELL, Susan
October 31, 1952 – Montreal, Quebec
October 24, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta
Susan Caswell, beloved wife of Gary Caswell, mother of Laura and Andrew Caswell, and daughter of Jean Haworth and Paul Bedard, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at the age of 63 years.
Sue was born in Montreal, QC, where she and her parents lived in a tiny apartment. She grew up as the bossy older sister to four siblings; that sense of responsibility led her into her chosen profession of nursing. She attended nursing school in Kingston, ON, and moved out West for further nursing opportunities, but really, because she knew this was where she would meet her husband, Gary. Sue married Gary in 1978, followed by the birth of Laura and Andrew. Family life brought her much joy and she balanced motherhood with her professional life. Sue was one of the founding nurses of Unit #57 (Tom Baker Cancer Centre), working the first night shift of the unit. She enjoyed her teaching experience at Mount Royal as a clinical nursing instructor near the end of her career. Golf, family, and volunteering became her retirement passions. Her faith and determination sustained her through her final months.
Susan is also survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Keely and George McGregor, Tracy Haworth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Bedard and Marlene Overend, Daryl Caswell and Barbara Schneider, and Sharon Caswell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Susan was predeceased by her step-father, Jim Haworth and brother, Roy Bedard.
If friends so desire, donations can be made in Susan’s name to the charity of your choice.
