Obituary of Joyce Joy Hester Dorothy MACKIDDIE
December 3, 1929 – Hawkesbury, ON
September 18, 2016 – Calgary, AB
Joyce “Joy” MacKiddie beloved wife of the late Kenneth William John MacKiddie of Guelph, ON passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the age of 86 years.
Joy grew up in Calumet, QC and went to school in Hawkesbury, ON. The family moved to Lachute, QC and Joy went on to attend McGill University where she graduated in 1952 and became the first female landscape architect in Quebec. She later received a degree in Education.
Joy was very supportive of her three boys and a strong advocate for the mentally challenged. She established the Sunset Club in Guelph, ON to help her boys and others connect socially in a safe, friendly environment.
Joy is survived by her sons David Walter and James Stanley; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Robert Dixon, Rose Anne and Boyd Kerr, Lona and Dan Pascal, Peter Devries and Jim Sassen; and by her sisters-in-law Marjolaine Welden, Bernadette Donohoe and Hazel MacKiddie. Joy was predeceased by her loving husband Ken in 2007 and her son Michael Kenneth John in 2012. She was also predeceased by her sisters Shirley Devries and Evelyn Sassen, and brothers James and John Welden.
