Obituary of Mary Louise Mary Lou RICHARDSON
May 2, 1928 – Drumheller, Alberta
July 27, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta
Mary Lou Richardson beloved wife of Bill Richardson of Calgary, passed away on July 27, 2016 at the age of 88 years.
Mary Lou grew up in Drumheller and graduated from Drumheller High School in 1947. She then attended the Calgary General Hospital Nursing School. She graduated in 1951. Mary Lou worked in the Drumheller Hospital after graduation before moving to Calgary to marry Bill. She then started working at the McKid Clinic in Calgary in 1952. She left the McKid Clinic in 1953 to have her first child a boy, Bill and went on to have a daughter in 1954, Kathleen and son in 1958, Mark.
In 1973, Mary Lou decided to change careers and worked for the CBE as a general aide at Briarhill Elementary, helping teachers in the classroom, before becoming a library clerk.
Mary Lou was an ardent needle-worker, painter and fabric artist. She belonged to the Calgary Guild of Needle and Fibre Arts for many years.
She spent many years of retirement volunteering, at the 1988 Olympics as well as helping in her grandchildren’s elementary school classroom and later in the junior high library.
Mary Lou will be greatly missed by many but especially by her grandchildren as she was a wonderful Grandmother and Mother.
Mary Lou is survived by her loving daughter Kathleen Richardson (Keith Wagner); sons, Bill Richardson (Deirdre) and Mark Richardson; sister Wendy Bilson (Terry); and her grandchildren, Steven Richardson (Wenda Hodgins), Orla Perrott (Liam) and Kayla Richardson. Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband Bill, and her sisters, Doris McClure, Vivian Allard, Theresa Scown and Yvonne Kraft.
As a family we would like to thank Sister Margaret and the staff at Providence Long Term Care Centre for taking such wonderful care of Mom.
