Obituary of Wilfred Robert OGDEN

January 10, 1930 – Royal Oak, Michigan July 15, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta Wilfred Ogden, beloved husband of Merle Ogden of Calgary, passed away on July 15, 2016 at the age of 86 years. Wilfred was a doting husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He adored his two daughters Nancy Conyers (Peter) and Susan Jessen; grandchildren, Kerri Megens (Christian), Erik Christensen, Stefanie Jessen and Christian Jessen; and great granddaughter, Khloe Megens. Wilfred Robert Ogden was born on Friday, January 10, 1930, the younger of two sons born to Alma Alice Gwendolyn Prouse and Wilfred Robert Ogden in Royal Oak, Michigan. When Wilf was two years old, his mother left his father, and along with his older brother, Edwin they moved back to Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) to live with her parents. When Wilf was nine years old, his mother married George Evans. They moved to Calgary when he was eleven years old. He was eternally grateful to his step father for bringing him to Calgary. He attended Balmoral Junior High and then Crescent Heights High School. While in school he held odd jobs such as helper on the Herald paper route, eventually having the largest route in Calgary delivering 200 papers per day. He also worked part time at Rosedale Auto Service, pumping gas, washing and polishing cars for .25 cents an hour. Wilf felt this is where he developed his love for anything with four wheels and a motor. After school he accepted a job from Don Forster at Tip Top Tailors. He then moved to Gordon Eddies Men’s Apparel, selling upscale menswear. Later Don Forster approached Wilf to become partner with him in Don Forster’s (menswear) where he enjoyed a very successful 33 year career as a business owner. He was a meticulous, hardworking and dedicated businessman who was well respected in the community. Wilf joined the Gyro Club in 1961, and he and Merle enjoyed the many benefits of being club members. In 2011 he was honoured with a 50 year plaque. He held the positions of President and Past President and became a lifetime member. Wilf’s family was first and foremost in his life, and being a loving husband, father and provider was his top priority. Merle was the love of his life and they were married for 64 years. They enjoyed dancing at Penley’s Dance Hall, and oh how they loved to jive. They welcomed their beautiful daughters to their family and created many wonderful family memories and traditions. May our memories sustain us in our time of sorrow and in our times of joy and celebration. Wilf was much loved by his family and will be greatly missed. A private family gathering was held at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
