Obituary of Joyce BRADFORD
August 17, 1921 – Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England
June 15, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta
Joyce, beloved wife of the late Ernest (Brad) of Calgary, passed away on June 17, 2016 at the age of 94 years.
Joyce was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England and was the fourth child of five; Brothers George, Jack, Alan and sister Margarita all pre-deceased her.
During the Second World War, Joyce did her national service building Lancaster Bombers in Coventry. It was at a service dance she met Ernest Henry Bradford. A wartime romance bloomed and she married Ernest in 1947. In 1949 she and Ernest immigrated to Canada, where Ernest joined the architectural firm at Stevenson and Associates in Calgary. Their son Ross was born in 1954.
Joyce and Ernest enjoyed a happy retirement which involved many trips and activities with Confederation Park Seniors Centre. Her beloved Ernest passed away in 1995. Joyce lived at home until 2015 then moved to Chinook Care Centre, where her big smile won many friends.
Joyce is survived by her son Ross; nephew Norman (Bev), Jeffrey Little (Claire), John Bradford (Berna); niece Margarita Haracsi (Joe), Moira Riley (Gail); and many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Loved by all, she is greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
