Obituary
Obituary of James Robert CUTHBERTSON
November 17, 1924 – Nanton, AB
May 13, 2016 – Calgary, AB
The family of Bob Cuthbertson, husband of the late Vivian Audrey Cuthbertson (Ball), wishes to announce that Bob passed away on May 13 at the age of 91 years.
Bob is survived by his daughters Joanne Cuthbertson (Charlie Fischer) and Barbara McNamara (Glenn), grandchildren Kate (Joel Douglas) and Lindsay Fischer and Kirk (Chelsea) and Jimmy McNamara, and great-granddaughter Eloise Douglas. He was predeceased by his brothers Neil and Lindsay and is survived by his sister, Janet Ramsay, of Edmonton.
A graduate of the University of Alberta, Bob spent his career as a geologist, mostly in Calgary’s oil patch. Although he retired from Petro-Canada in 1983, right into his nineties, Bob was always eager and able to talk in detail about the wells and plays he worked on from his first to his last years in the industry. Except when in front of the television cheering on the “Stamps” or armchair coaching the “Flames”, Bob was seldom seen sitting, until his most recent years. He easily kept busy in Calgary, making daily trips for fifty years to the Glencoe Club, to circle the jogging track or compete on the tennis or badminton courts. Being a very able handyman, his summers over five decades were enjoyed puttering on projects at the family cabin at Windermere. When feeling the urge to venture beyond BC, after retirement Bob and Audrey traveled to a multitude of countries with the University of Calgary Travel Study program, forging lasting friendships while experiencing new adventures. Although always ready with a quick tease, poke or one-liner at a moment’s notice, it is appreciated that it was only with serious conviction and dedication that Bob oversaw the wellbeing of his family.
In accordance with Bob’s and the family’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in tribute to Bob’s life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
