Condolences
I was sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing. My sincere condolences to all her family.
As a teacher I greatly appreciated her strong leadership at Bob Edwards. She required the best from both the staff and students to the point that Bob Edwards was often referred to as ‘The Harvard of the East’ for the conduct and achievements of the students. Quite a compliment for a junior high school! It was an honour to know her and be part of her staff. I enjoyed the occasions that we met in the past few years.
She will be missed by not only her family but all who have been influenced by her throughout the years.
My condolences to Margaret’s family. She was a remarkable woman and was one of the most impactful people in my life. Margaret was a teacher at F.E. Osborne when I was there as an underachieving student. It was there that I first learned about Margaret’s sense of discipline and belief in working towards excellence. Later when I graduated with an education degree Margaret hired me to teach at Rosedale junior high where she was principal. A year later, she took me with her to Bob Edwards. My years teaching under Margaret were formative years for me. She was my toughest critic and my greatest supporter. She made me feel that if I constantly aspired to doing a job well each and every day I could do anything. After seven years of teaching, I decided to apply to law school. Margaret wrote my reference letter which of course was superbly well crafted (and more positive than I deserved). Years later, some of Margaret’s letter was read out loud in a courtroom by a judge when I was formally admitted to the Bar as a lawyer.
I am forever grateful for everything the Iron Lady ever did for me.
So sorry to hear about this. Our thoughts and prayers are with you
Mrs. Elliott was my English teacher at FEO. Her teaching and her not so subtle way of both reprimanding and encouraging me has stayed with me over the years. She was one of my favorite teachers then and has remained on the top of my list over the many years since then. My condolences to her family.
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Margaret (who we fondly called Mrs. E). Margaret was an amazing principal at Bob Edwards Junior High. She held high expectations for both her students and staff. She inspired and encouraged many, including myself. Margaret’s professionalism, leadership, commitment, dedication, knowledge of learning and curriculum, and genuine interest in the students and their well-being has stayed with me all these years. I can honestly say that it was her encouragement, direction, and coaching that led me to further my education and take another step in my career journey. I fondly remember our many discussions and meetings; she was not only an intuitive mentor but also an patient listener. I also looked forward to attending many theatre productions with her over the years. It always made me chuckle, to sometimes find her seat empty after intermission – Margaret’s way of expressing displeasure with the direction a particular play.
My hope is that you find comfort from knowing how highly your mother and grandmother was regarded by all who knew her.
Blessings to all.
Mrs. Elliott taught English to Grade 9 students at LCI in Lethbridge. While I recall her as stern and demanding, I also recall that she taught me well – to take care to write properly, to select words carefully, and what the real meaning of the word “peruse” is. There are only a few teachers that a person remembers into late adulthood but I remember Mrs. Elliott. She was an important influence on my life.
Dear Lindis,
When our family was young, we lived next door to your dear parents on Dalridge Hill. Your parents were very kind to us and also to our children.
We will always remember with fondness and joy our time with your parents.
Sincere sympathy to you and all of your family.
Ms. Elliott was my teacher many, many years ago. To this day I remember what a wonderful, compassionate teacher she was. I offer my thoughts and prayers to your family. She was, in a word, amazing.
Our deepest sympathy to Margaret’s family
We had many memorable trips with Margaret to many parts
of the world. She was a very interesting traveller and we enjoyed having her on all our trips
We will always have fond memories of her
God bless you all
Margaret was my principal at Bob Edwards and her profound influence on my career cannot be measured. Her love of education, dedication to students and sincere integrity will always be remembered. She was a true mentor to many.
My deepest sympathies. She was a great lady. Very well respected. She was my principal at Bob Edwards Junior High in the late 70’s early 80’s which I attended all three years.
My deepest sympathies, she was my principal at Bob Edwards in the 80s and was a very nice lady who was very kind to me…. I remember her favorite color was green. She had a green car, wore green outfits and even her perfume was a green..emerad I believe it was. I will always remember her fondly!
I was in Mrs Elliott’s office a few times whilst she was principal at Bob Edwards. I was one of those students who didn’t care for school. I left school only a few years later and thought that would be the end of it. The funny thing was, out of all the people i had talked to about leaving school it was Mrs Elliott’s words who stuck with me all those years. “I know you will do well if you only apply yourself”. I heeded her words and made a career for myself and i have nobody to thanks except Mrs Elliott. I was honored to have ran into her at the Calgary airport while returning from an international flight many years later. She remembered my name, told me she had wondered about me over the years and knew I would make the right choice. She was a no nonsense principal but very well respected. ..even by the kids in her office all the time. She made a huge impact on my life and im forever thankful. Condolences to the family. ..she was an elegant, caring woman with a strong sense of community. RIP Mrs Elliott
To the Elliott Family.
I was saddened to learn that Margaret had passed away. I worked as a White Hatter with Margaret for many years and enjoyed our time together. I had wondered where Margaret was as I used to run into her at the stores and market every so often. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family and please accept my sincere sympathy.
Mrs. Elliott was my home room teacher in Grade 8 and 9 at F.E. Osborne Jr. High School in 1969 and 1970. There was no one in my educational life who had a more profound effect on me than her. My children and wife have heard me speak of her many times. I have spoken to other students of our time who feel similarly.
I owe much to her. I can only imagine how many lives she enriched in her time with us. I think of her often. My thoughts are with her family.
Over the years Margaret and I crossed paths in our neighbourhood, as School Board employees and as on the same White Hatter shift. Margaret had the respect of everyone; no matter the situation her opinion and suggestions were always respected and valued.
My sincere sympathy to her loving family of whom she often spoke so fondly.
God will bless her memory to all of us.
Margaret was a White Hatter at the Calgary Airport. I was fortunate enough to have her on my shift
as a White Hatter. Margaret was our go-to-editor when we had something to write. We lived fairly close to each other and we often went to airport functions together. She was a clever woman and all who met her were the better for it. We have lost a special person.
My heartfelt thoughts are with Margaret’s family at this sad time. She was indeed a great educator with a passion for learning coupled with huge respect for all her students. So many fond memories of Margaret at Bob Edwards! Her annual Christmas letter was always a joy to read! I always looked forward to her warm and engaging account of her life with her beloved family, her intrepid travels, her favourite books and her views on everything from politics to cookery!!
My deepest sympathy to all who knew and loved Margaret. She was an inspiration to us all and will be greatly missed.
On behalf of my aunt, Edna Sims, formerly of George Street, Amble, and who is now in a Care Home as she has Alzheimer’s , I would like to send my condolences to Margaret’s family. Aunty Edna knew Margaret well and when she was well often reminisced about her younger days and the time she spent with Margaret in Canada with Sheila Handyside, who sadly is also no longer with us. God bless your family.
Margaret had a huge impact on so many educators, young and old – me included.
