Obituary of Sylvia Jean GRANT

September 5, 1925 – January 7, 2016 Sylvia Jean Grant (nee Callaway) beloved wife of David Byron Grant passed away on January 7, 2016 at the age of 90 years. In addition to her husband of 66 years, Sylvia is survived by her son David Grant (Catherine, Casey); daughter Marilyn Schmidt (Dave, Christie, Jaclyn); daughter-in-law Trish Miller, and; sister Alice Elzinga (Dave). Sylvia was predeceased by her son Richard Douglas Grant. Sylvia will be remembered by family and friends for her loyalty, kindness and her lifelong commitment to putting other people’s needs before her own. Her strong faith along with her courage, determination and resilience helped her to face the challenges presented to her during her life. Sylvia was an active member of her community, particularly with the Alberta Golf Association, Earl Grey Golf Club, the I.O.D.E. and Lakeview United Church. Sylvia was inducted into the University of Alberta’s Sports Wall of Fame in 1992 for her outstanding achievements in varsity sports. Sylvia will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and many friends, both in Calgary and in Gold Canyon, Arizona. A Memorial Service will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 – 63 Avenue SW) on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment service will follow at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated.
